A strong family is an intentional family that does things on purpose to make their family stronger.
Intentional Family of Canada (IFC) is an inclusive environment that values and celebrates diversity, differences, cultures, beliefs, abilities, identities, and various perspectives, while prioritizing shared experiences and strong bonds. Ours is a welcoming space where all members of Canadian society can learn from us as we create awareness of the diversity of Blackness. Our activities and programs are specifically targeted to support the Black community, but our doors are open wide enough to make all members of the Canadian community feel valued and respected, regardless of their background or status.
Our culturally relevant programs and services are designed to promote dialogue on multiculturalism, anti-racism, racial equity, diversity, and inclusion. We also focus on providing mental health support to ensure that everyone can thrive. Our programs are structured to advance institutional and systemic change, aiming to create a more inclusive society in Canada, free from racism and hate-motivated actions. Through our initiatives, we come together as one intentional family, support individuals and families, connect with one another, and foster a sense of belonging and community. Our intentionality involves learning together, planning activities together, celebrating milestones, and engaging in meaningful interactions. There is so much to see here. Take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us.
Welcome home.
We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us a line.

Intentional Family of Canada (IFC) is a registered not-for-profit community-based organization dedicated to educating, informing, connecting, and equipping the racialized, Black, African, and Caribbean immigrants in Canada with the people and resources they need to foster a thriving community and strong families. Our Intentional Family of Canada (IFC) comprises individuals and families who are intentionally creating a supportive community to address loneliness and isolation.
Established in April 2025, Intentional Family of Canada aims to provide effective and culturally relevant programs while creating a safe, welcoming, and culturally appropriate environment that connects individuals, families, and children with African culture, effectively creating a home away from home—a village, an intentional community. We also offer services for women experiencing domestic violence, regardless of their background. Our programs, events, and activities are informed by an intersectional antidiscrimination approach and focus on solutions, involving initiatives like culturally relevant programs, support groups, and networking opportunities. We believe that by fostering a sense of belonging and community, we can break down cultural divides and barriers, promoting a harmonious and prosperous Canadian community for all.
While our programs are open to the public, we prioritize services for marginalized communities, including elementary school children and youth through our student support program; women, men, seniors, couples, and families through our family support program; and a gender-based violence awareness program to raise awareness about the issues faced by racialized immigrant women. We also provide essential mental health support through our mental health program.
At the heart of Intentional Family of Canada (IFC) is the desire to help racialized immigrants lead healthy and productive lives in Canada, overcoming challenges associated with settlement, including mental health challenges linked to homesickness, isolation, and loneliness. Our mission is clear: we are committed to supporting the Black community and ensuring that everyone has access to the resources they need.
