Since September 1, 1999, one of the requirements for all students in Ontario is to complete 40 hours of community involvement in order to receive an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). The purpose of this requirement is to encourage students to develop an understanding of civic responsibility and of the role they can play and the contributions they can make in supporting and strengthening their communities. Students will plan and select their community involvement activities in consultation with their parents/guardians and as part of the Individual Pathways Plan process.
What is Community Involvement?
Why has the Ministry of Education mandated it?

Facilitation is a process which makes learning and sharing together as a group easy. The difference between facilitation and teaching or training is that the role of a facilitator is not to transfer knowledge to a group as an ‘expert’; instead facilitators aim to support a group to share knowledge and ideas and work effectively together. The group is the ‘expert’.
This volunteer opportunity enables you to share your expertise with participants and contribute in extremely high-impact ways to the growth and development of our clients' lives. As a volunteer in these transformational programs, you will facilitate online workshops on topics revolving around settlement challenges that trigger mental health issues such as:
You will be expected to lead interactive discussions. This opportunity requires a time commitment of one to two hours per session one to three times a year depending on our calendar or events.
